Andy Murray has opened up on a drastic technical change he made before going on a losing run. The former world No. 1 explained that he switched his usual racket stringing set-up to copy Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic during the off-season. After 20 years of playing with the same strings, the tactic left him feeling doubtful when he started the year on a four-match losing streak.
Murray has only just started to find his groove this year, winning his opening-round matches in both Doha and Dubai. Before that, the Brit went four months without a victory, going on a six-match losing streak from the end of the 2023 season to the beginning of 2024.

And there may be a reason for his difficult start to the season, as the world No. 67 has now revealed that he recently altered his racket stringing pattern, something that took a lot of getting used to after two decades of using the same set-up. “I’ve always played with natural gut in the cross-strings of my racket,” the three-time Grand Slam champion said ahead of the Dubai Championships.
