A GP who claimed to work with Tyson Fury and Conor Benn is facing scrutiny from the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) after another fighter failed a doping test.
The activities of Dr Usman Sajjad are being “carefully considered” after European super-bantamweight champion Dennis McCann was suspended last month.
Dr Sajjad, who is listed at Churchtown Medical Centre in Southport, claims on his Instagram page that he is “doctor for the champ” Fury and also lists Benn among his clients.
The GP was working with Benn when the boxer tested positive in 2022 and said in a podcast interview the same year that he believed “80 to 90 per cent” of elite boxers could be using drugs. Benn has since been cleared to compete again after the National Anti-Doping Panel cleared him of any wrongdoing over his two positive drugs tests in 2022.
