British professional boxer Tyson Fury is one of the greatest boxers of his generation, having won 33 of his 34 matches, never losing a professional fight and only drawing once.

According to Forbes, Tyson Fury’s net worth stands at $62million, and in 2022 he was the 18th highest-paid athlete in the world.

More recently, the new Netflix docu-series “At Home with the Furys” gave an insight into Fury’s personal and professional life

We look into what Tyson Fury does, how he makes his millions and other ventures he takes on when his boxing gloves aren’t on.

WHO IS TYSON FURY?

Tyson Fury is a two-time British heavyweight boxing world champion who has held the World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight title since 2020.

He comes from an Irish Traveller family and grew up in Wythenshawe, a town south of Manchester.

Fury hails from a legacy of fighting spirits passed down through generations. His upbringing was rooted in the sport, with both his father and half-brother being professional boxers.

Named after the legendary American boxer Mike Tyson by his dad, Fury was already making waves in the amateur circuit at the age of ten, winning titles such as the EU Junior Champion and the ABA National Champion.

Owing to his Irish and English heritage, he represented both Ireland and England in amateur competitions.

As a professional, he held the Ring magazine title twice between 2015 and 2022, along with the unified heavyweight belts from 2015 to 2016.

He has had successful knockout wins against opponents like Derek Chisora, Wladimir Klitschko and Deontay Wilder.

Fury secured a five-fight deal with ESPN and Top Rank in 2019, which was valued at $100million.

According to Forbes, he made an estimated total of $60million from just two matches between 2021 and 2022 against Deontay Wilder and Dillian Whyte.

In December 2021, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman ordered Fury to defend his WBC title against Dillian White for $41million, becoming the highest successful purse bid in boxing history (when the highest bidder wins the right to put on the fight).

The fight took place at Wembley Stadium in London in April 2022, drawing a record-breaking crowd of 94,000 fans, where Fury ultimately won the knockout.

The boxer also boasted a bank account with £43million after victories against Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora. His venture into the UFC Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) arena against Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia earned him £50 million in 2023.

Fury is likely to receive the biggest paycheck of his career as he faces Oleksandr Usyk in May 2024. Originally slated for February, the highly anticipated clash has been postponed due to an injury sustained by Fury.

Beyond the boxing ring, Fury has made appearances in WWE events.

In November 2019, Fury’s autobiography “Behind the Mask” was released which featured on Amazon’s bestseller list within 24 hours of its launch.

The book highlights Fury’s personal struggles with drugs, alcohol and his mental health. His second book, “The Furious Method,” published in 2020, also garnered commercial success.

In his Netflix show ‘At Home with the Furys’, Fury shares a glimpse into his family, relationships and life outside the ring.

His media presence extends beyond the Netflix show with his appearances in documentaries such as “Meet the Furys” and “Tyson Fury: The Gypsy King.”

He was a guest vocalist on Robbie Williams’ album “The Christmas Present” for the song “Bad Sharon”. He also released a cover of “Sweet Caroline” in 2022 to raise money for the men’s mental health charity, Talk Club.

Fury’s sponsorship deals have also upped his net worth, with earnings from the popular Betr sports betting app and his venture capital platform Anti Fund with entrepreneur Geoffrey Woo.

More recently, Fury expanded his business ventures by launching a range of energy drinks under the brand “Furocity Energy”, as competition to Red Bull and Monster Energy.

Tiger Woods has used his traditional choice of wearing red in a tournament’s final round as influence for a new venture following his split with Nike.

The move follows the 48-year-old ending a partnership of more than 27 years with the sportswear giant in January.

The logo for Sun Day Red features an abstract tiger, made up of 15 stripes, the number of majors he has won.

“Every single tournament I’ve played as a professional I’ve worn red. It’s just become synonymous with me,” said Woods.

“Sunday red – it’s me. It started with mom [Kultida]. She thought being a Capricorn that my power colour was red, so I wore red as a junior golfer and I won some tournaments.

“Lo and behold, I go to a university that is red, Stanford is red. We wore red on the final day of every single tournament.”

Woods is set to play his first PGA Tour event of 2024 at the Genesis Invitational, which starts in California on Thursday, 15 February.

The former world number one underwent ankle surgery in April last year after withdrawing from the Masters during the third round. He did not compete again until the Hero World Challenge in December and has said he expects to play one event per month in 2024.

Mike Tyson once confronted Donald Trump during a heated exchange and asked, ‘are you f***ing my wife?’

Tim O’Brien, the author of the book TrumpNation, claims the former world heavyweight champion confronted Trump over an affair with his wife at the time, Robin Givens.

Tyson reportedly asked the former US president: “Could I ask you, are you f***ing my wife?”

O’Brien went on to quote Trump as saying after the meeting: “Now, if I froze, I’m dead… you would have zero chance. Here’s the heavyweight champion of the world, and he’s a solid piece of fu**ing armour.”

It was Trump who bid a staggering $11 million to host Tyson’s fight with Michael Spinks at the Atlantic City Convention Hall, adjacent to his own Trump Plaza in New Jersey.

Tyson was 21-years-old at the time and the fight became famous for his spine-tingling ring walk en route to a first round knockout victory.

Despite the affair incident, their friendship exists to this day. In fact, ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ even backed Trump in his successful 2016 presidential campaign.

Tyson and Trump have a long history together, with their first interaction coming in the late 1980’s.

“I got along great with him,” Trump said about Tyson in an interview with the UFC last year.

“In fact, I saw him recently, and he could not have been nicer, You know, he was always very nice to me and very good. But I had a lot of fights, and he was a draw… he could draw anything.

Which active men’s tennis player has lost the most matches by retirement? Does anyone want to take a guess?

If not, then you will have to scroll down to get the answer and we have to say we were surprised by the name and the fact that his tally was six more than the next player on the list.

Nick Kyrgios’ first-ever defeat via retirement came against Dominic Thiem in Nice in 2015 as he threw in the towel with the score 4-3 in the opening set due to an elbow injury. His most recent retirement was at Wimbledon 2021 against Felix Auger-Aliassime when he retired at 2-6, 6-1 because of an abdominal injury.

Besides the 10 retirements, Kyrgios has also lost four matches via walkover.

Former world No 19 Marcel Granollers is also in double figures although he hasn’t retired since Moscow 2015 when he threw in the towel with the score 5-2 in Stephane Robert’s favour.

Novak Djokovic | Biography, Grand Slams, & Facts | Britannica

Dusan Lajovic’s most recent retirement came in August 2023 at the Cincinnati Open. The Serbian came through qualifying and he upset eighth seed Jannik Sinner in the round of 32, but the workload took its toll as he retired from his fourth-round clash against Taylor Fritz with the American leading 5-0.

Jiri Vesely didn’t have a particularly good time during the mid-2016 season as he retired from his match against Carlos Berlocq at the Umag Open in mid-July and then also retired from his match against Andrey Kuznetsov at the Winston-Salem Open a few weeks later.

He then featured in the first round of the US Open, but was unable to play against world No 1 Novak Djokovic in the second round, giving the top seed a walkover.

=5. Novak Djokovic, Benoit Paire and Mikhail Kukushkin – 13 retirements

Novak Djokovic is about to destroy a Roger Federer's super record!

Novak Djokovic came in for a lot of criticism during his younger days for not finishing matches. He even drew the ire of Roger Federer after he retired from his quarter-final clash against Andy Roddick at the 2009 Australian Open.

“He’s not a guy who’s never given up before. It’s disappointing. I’ve only done it once in my career. Andy [Roddick] totally deserved to win that match. I’m almost in favour of saying, you know what, if you’re not fit enough, just get out of here,” Federer said.

Ten of Djokovic’s 13 retirements came during the first 10 years of his career with only three coming after 2015. In fact, he hasn’t retired from a match since the 2019 US Open when he was booed after throwing in the towel during his round of 16 clash against Stan Wawrinka with the score 6-4, 7-5, 2-1 in the Swiss’ favour.

Benoit Paire is no stranger to controversy as he is the first to admit that he is not passionate about tennis. The 2021 season saw the Frenchman retire three times while in 2022 he threw in the towel twice.

Mayweather, who lives in the city, divulged that he spent $1.1million (£870,000) paying for 34 friends to watch the game.

In his first post, Mayweather said: “I don’t kiss ass and I never have to beg for nothing especially not to get a Super Bowl suite.

“I don’t mind accepting invites at times, but one thing’s for sure… the person that’s paying does all the saying.

“Therefore I get my own seats and suites so I can do what I want and invite who I want!

I’m blessed to be taking 34 people to experience the first Super Bowl in Las Vegas! $1,131,000.00.”

After this, Mayweather went on to reveal the $1.1million (£870,000) was nothing to him, as he paid $18million (£14.3million) in tax earlier in the day.

In the game itself, the Kansas City Chiefs pulled off a dramatic win over the San Francisco 49ers in overtime.

This result helped Mayweather claw back some of the money he spent on the suite.

He posted on Instagram on Sunday to show his betting slip post-match.

How Floyd Mayweather Became Boxing's First $1 Billion Fighter

Mayweather bet $95,000 (£75,000) on the Chiefs to win.

As a result, he won $203,000 (£161,000) on the game.

However, it must be said that the man who earned hundreds of millions on single nights in his fighting prime is used to bigger bets than this.

On the bright side though, his bets this year performed significantly better than in 2023.

Mayweather bet against the Chiefs last year, placing $10,000 ($8,000) on the Philadelphia Eagles to beat Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Andy Reid.

The Chiefs rallied to win Super Bowl LVII, downing the Eagles 38-35, and giving Mayweather’s 10 grand to the house.

AJ and Wardley train in the same gym, raising the possibility of the former world champion giving out pointers that could work against Clarke on fight night.

Olympic medalist Clarke and 6ft 5in Wardley are set to put their unbeaten professional records on the line at the O2 Arena on March 31. The winner will also take home the British heavyweight title belt, which is currently held by Wardley.

Clarke finds himself in an unusual situation whereby his friend Joshua is sharing a gym with his upcoming opponent. The 32-year-old’s friendship with AJ is so close that he risked backlash in 2022 by apologising on his behalf for a perplexing rant after losing to Oleksandr Usyk.

“I’d like to apologise on AJ’s behalf,” Clarke told Sky Sports after the fight. “He might not like me for this and his team might not either but they left him out to dry there.

That was so out of character but the people around him, where were they? He’s had a bad one there… if I was there, I would’ve took a dig just to take the mic off of him just to give him a minute to compose himself.”

Clarke called time on his distinguished amateur career and turned professional in 2022. He has progressed quickly since, having arrived in the pro ranks beyond the age of 30, with wins over Bogdan Dinu, Mariusz Wach and Dave Allen the highlights of his CV.
