To the chagrin of many, he surprisingly expressed satisfaction with how everything turned out. He even stressed why getting into the ring made sense, citing the powerful message for his children. As Mike Tyson is cited in a Us article,

It might not have been what many people wanted or expected to hear. Most will agree it was a commendable sentiment that shed light on his feelings, and it was his truth. Beyond that, it was a statement that gave credence to a boxer who, despite his advanced age and medical condition, followed through on what he said he would do.

Shortly afterwards, it was the boxer himself who published his own New Year’s message, especially dedicated to his compatriots. “Last year we all had to face battles and victories, but I am sure that our greatest triumph is yet to come. Parker first became WBO heavyweight champion back in 2016 with a victory over Andy Ruiz, and has remained near the top of the division for nearly a decade.

He lost his title to Anthony Joshua in 2018, but has had a career resurgence in the past 12 months, defeating Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang to earn himself another crack at world honours.

That comes in February, when he challenges Daniel Dubois for his IBF heavyweight title in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on the same card as Artur Beterbiev and Dmity Bivol‘s rematch for the undisputed light-heavyweight title.

While Parker may have shared the ring with Wilder, Zhang and Joshua, it’s another man that he deems to have been his toughest ever opponent, as he revealed to Carl Froch on his Froch On Fighting YouTube channel.

With Oleksandr Usyk putting to bed any questions about his talent in 2024, having dispatched of Tyson Fury twice in one year, the Gypsy King’s promoter, Frank Warren, has come out to deny the rumours that the Brit may have broken any rules in his losing attempt.

Boxing in 2024 produced some of the most entertaining fights in recent times. From Artur Beterbiev’s victory over Dmitry Bivol, Daniel Dubois’ knockout victory over Anthony Joshua, to Usyk’s double over Fury, there were plenty of shocks throughout the year.

An outcome that was a surprise to some was a routine unanimous decision victory for Usyk, as the Ukrainian finished the year with a CV of wins that anyone would be proud of. Although it appeared the drama of this feud was over, Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, has come out to deny the claims that the Gypsy King cheated by having his shorts up too high.

It was a rivalry that brought out the best in both fighters and had the respect of everyone involved, but Usyk proved to the world that he was the greatest heavyweight boxer on the planet in 2024. With Fury taking the first loss on the chin, his second loss didn’t sit as well. Believing he had done enough to win, his UD loss caught him off guard and left him with unknown plans for 2025.

For all the artistry at the elite levels of boxing, the footwork and defense, the crisp combinations and pinpoint jabs, there’s nothing quite like a knockout. While there were epic KOs across all weight classes, the heavyweights stole the show this year. Our panel of CBS Sports experts sat down, debated and cast our votes for Knockout of…

Getty Images In a year-round, global sport like boxing, there’s a near-guarantee that every year will produce several great fights. That was no different in 2024, with several viable contenders emerging in the Fight of the Year race. Making 2024 even more interesting was the fact that these great fights took place across a variety of weight classes and for both men and women — and many with the biggest stakes in the sport on the line.

It hasn’t been easy for boxing legend Mike Tyson to return to private life after his fight with Jake Paul.

‘Iron Mike’ returned to the boxing ring for the first time in two decades last month in Dallas. While Mike Tyson faced Roy Jones Jr. in 2020, that bout was an unsanctioned exhibition contest. His fight with Jake Paul last month was a professional bout, his first since a stoppage loss to Kevin McBride in June 2005.

Heading into the bout, many were concerned for the legendary heavyweight. However, all that worry was for nothing. In the end, the eight-round boxing match didn’t feature much in the way of action. While Mike Tyson won round one, he quickly faded, and was outboxed by Jake Paul en route to a unanimous decision loss.

Over a month removed from that night in Texas, the 58-year-old has largely remained quiet. However, in a recent interview with Fox Sports Radio, Mike Tyson discussed the bout. There, ‘Iron Mike’ admitted that he doesn’t really remember much of the fight. In the interview, he also took aim at critics who alleged the contest wasn’t real.
