Mike Tyson has candidly shared his feelings of being “kind of depressed” after his lucrative clash with Jake Paul, despite walking away $20million richer. The boxing legend failed to come out on top in their recent fight, which was decided in eight rounds with the judges scoring it 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73 unanimously in Paul’s favour.

While the defeat was a tough one to swallow, the hefty payday was a silver lining for Tyson, who discussed the emotional lows following the high-stakes match in a chat with Steve Covino and Rich Davis on the FOX Sports Radio YouTube channel earlier this month.

Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul: What is Jake Paul's boxing record?

The 58-year-old sports icon reflected on his post-fight mood and the adjustment back to everyday life, saying: “That fight was such a big ascent-we were so up and high, we were so excited. The fight’s over, boom. Wow, I’m kind of depressed a little bit. We got to get back [into] our living situation [daily life], back to living. [We were] training for it 9 months.”

Floyd Mayweather Jr spent $20million on his three-year-old grandson this Christmas, which will see him set for life.

While most children get toys, video games and electronic devices from Santa on December 25, ‘Money’ Mayweather gifted his daughter Iyanna’s son, Kentrell Gaulden Jr, a stunning $20m building in New York City. The bustling property on 6th Avenue and 47th Street in Manhattan boasts office space, a diamond exchange, and a huge income-generated billboard – ensuring that his grandson will be looked after in terms of finances.

Speaking about the purchase, Mayweather explained: “I used to shop in the diamond exchange as a young adult. I never thought I would end up owning this important property at the entrance of 47th street…Through hard work and dedication anything is possible.”

Mayweather also uploaded a video to Instagram showing the moment Gaulden Jr found out about his Xmas gift. The 50-0 pugilist explained to the tot: “I got you a gift. Guess what I bought you? You are the first kid that owns a building in the diamond district in New York City.”

He is likely to be fit and ready for the Australian Open after an injury-hit season, during which Djokovic reached one Grand Slam final.

The 37-year-old suffered a loss to Carlos Alcaraz in that Wimbledon clash, in what was a repeat outcome of the 2023 final.

Djokovic has hired Andy Murray as his coach to help with his preparations, with the duo set to pair in the off-season and at the first major event of the new season.

The Serbian boasts 10 Australian Open titles, more than any other player, with his 24 Grand Slams two ahead of Rafael Nadal and four ahead of Roger Federer.

And one such title was secured in what Djokovic has described as the most ‘nerve-wracking’ match of his career.

Oleksandr Usyk openly admitted to wearing a bootleg Rolex just days after successfully beating Tyson Fury in their second meeting.

While plenty of athletes like to show off their expensive clothing and jewelry, the fan-favorite heavyweight champion shamelessly boasted his fake timepiece in a street interview with United44.

After flashing the watch to the camera, Usyk quickly admitted to the inauthenticity of his accessory.

‘I was boasting a little and showed the cameraman my watch,’ he said, laughing. ‘It’s a Chinese Rolex.

‘I was in Turkey for training and saw guys selling Rolexes on the beach,’ Usyk continued. ‘I thought if I bought one, no one would guess that it was a fake. So I bought it for $100.’

As he pointed out, nobody questioned if the watch was fake considering the substantial amount the Ukrainian fighter has earned throughout his career.

The highly anticipated fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, held on November 15, became one of the most talked-about events of the past year. While the bout shattered viewership records on Netflix, USA TODAY Sports revealed that it fell short of expectations in terms of attendance.

According to documents obtained by the outlet, a tax report submitted by fight promoter Holden Boxing LLC showed that 59,666 tickets were sold, with an additional 6,437 distributed as complimentary, for a total of 66,103 tickets.

These numbers starkly contrasted with Paul’s ambitious prediction of 90,000 spectators at AT&T Stadium. Achieving that figure would have required selling 10,000 standing-room-only seats at the 80,000-seat venue, home to the Dallas Cowboys.

Despite falling short of the projected crowd, the fight generated $18.1 million in ticket revenue, the highest ever for a U.S. boxing event outside of Nevada. The total revenue subject to state taxes reached $22 million, including $3.6 million attributed to complimentary tickets.

Mike Tyson escaped a tough upbringing in New York to become one of the richest athletes of his generation – but he still lost every penny of his fortune by the age of 37.

‘Iron Mike’ was a sensation in the 1980s and 1990s, going undefeated in his first 37 bouts and cleaning opponents out with his fearsome power. Tyson’s brazen personality and deadly trash talking only heightened his fame, with eyes drawn to his fights from around the world.

Mike Tyson: Biography, Boxer, Heavyweight Champion, Ex-Criminal

By 2003, when his professional career was winding down, Tyson had reportedly racked up an astonishing fortune of around £313million. But that was also the year every penny of it went down the drain after a string of ludicrous purchases.

Tyson filed for bankruptcy in £18m worth of debt and with around £10.5m owed in taxes, which begs the question: How did he spend so much, so quickly

The first time boxer Claressa Shields watched The Fire Inside, a cinematic rendering of her life story which releases in theaters on Dec. 25, she tried to remove herself from the equation. She pretended the story was about some other athlete from Flint, Mich. growing up in poverty and chasing an Olympic dream. Shields planned to watch the film with a neutral eye, and give it a grade, as she typically likes to do when viewing sports flicks.

This exercise lasted all of 10 minutes. “I definitely put myself into it,” says Shields. Who wouldn’t, when watching themselves depicted on the screen? The performance of Ryan Destiny, who portrayed Shields, stunned the two-time gold medalist: she was able to capture Shields’ mannerisms, both inside and outside the ring. Shields, in both The Fire Inside and in real life, overcame a difficult childhood—and doubts about the appropriateness of female fighters in the ring—to become America’s first female boxing gold medalist, at the debut of Olympic women’s boxing at the London 2012 Games. She’s also America’s first and only back-to-back Olympic boxing champion, as she won again four years later in Rio. And currently, Shields ranks as the top pound-for-pound professional boxer on the planet, according to ESPN.

“I was just like, ‘wow, look at where we started, and look at where we are now,’” Shields, 29, tells TIME. “This is how you turn your pain into power.”

The Fire Inside effectively packs two films into one. While many movies would have ended with Shields winning the gold medal in London, to neatly wrap the traditional rags-to-riches redemption story, The Fire Inside—which was written by Barry Jenkins, director and co-writer of the 2016 best-picture Oscar winner Moonlighttakes viewers to an often-unexplored place: the months following an Olympic triumph, which for far too many athletes outside high-visibility sports like gymnastics and swimming is filled with disappointment, and sometimes despair. The expected financial windfalls often never come. They question the point of their pursuits.

The seven-time world champion will be headed to Ferrari this winter as he leaves a 12-year partnership with Mercedes.

Hamilton left Mercedes at the end of 2024, with his 246th and last race with the team coming at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where he managed to finish fourth despite starting the race down in 16th.

On the whole, however, Hamilton’s 2024 season was one of the worst of his illustrious career, finishing down in seventh in the drivers’ championship and being outperformed by team-mate George Russell in both qualifying sessions and races.

Despite this on-track disappointment, Hamilton has been rewarded off the track at times throughout 2024, and not just by signing a mega-money deal with the Scuderia.

Hamilton was announced to be a co-chair at the 2025 Met Gala, with the 39-year-old saying he was ‘beyond honoured’ to be given the gig at one of the world’s most illustrious fashion events.

Tiger Woods’ presence on the greens and fairways was sorely missed by the PGA Tour, which achieved a massive spike in ratings during his return to the course.

Over the weekend, Woods competed alongside his son, Charlie, in the PNC Championship in Orlando, Florida. The family affair marked his first time playing since undergoing a sixth surgery on his lower back in September.

Prior to the Father/Son Challenge, Woods’ last tournament appearance came at The Open Championship back in July. Over the last four seasons, he’s only managed to make 13 combined starts on the PGA Tour while battling a myriad of health setbacks.

Though Team Woods were ultimately forced to settle for second place behind Team Langer, the duo provided fans with several unforgettable moments throughout the weekend – perhaps no more memorable than Charlie’s first-ever hole-in-one on the par-3 fourth hole.
