Formula One sensation Lewis Hamilton is eyeing a groundbreaking year ahead after celebrating his 40th birthday this week.

Having made headlines with his move to Ferrari at the dawn of the new year, the acclaimed Brit and seven-time world champion has expressed his aim to shatter records by clinching an eighth F1 title after leaving Mercedes for Scuderia in 2025.

Despite his last championship triumph dating back to 2020 and a seventh-place finish in his final season with Mercedes, Hamilton is determined to outperform expectations in the approaching season, starting at the Australian Grand Prix in March, WalesOnline reports.

Lewis Hamilton has received a major boost as he looks to win a record-breaking eighth drivers’ championship following his switch to Ferrari.

With seven Formula 1 titles under his belt already, Hamilton has now joined up with his new team, embarking on a fresh adventure with the iconic Italian outfit at 40 years old.

The seven-time champion opted to ditch Mercedes following three seasons of underperformance, with the team falling out of championship contention in recent seasons, despite previously having had tremendous success.

In his last three seasons with the Brackley outfit, for example, Hamilton only achieved two race victories, despite winning 82 grands prix and six world championships in the nine seasons before that.

The seven-time world champion is set to make his debut in red F1 machinery at some point later this month, weather permitting, as part of the team’s testing of previous cars (TPC) programme.

Hamilton’s first official drive in Ferrari’s 2025 car, meanwhile, is set to come at Bahrain testing in February.

The Brit will then make his race debut for the Scuderia in Melbourne in March at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.

The next time that Hamilton steps into an F1 car, he will do so as a 40-year-old for the first time having hit the milestone on January 7.

Age is showing no signs of stopping the seven-time champion any time soon, however, and his latest statement issued via his Instagram stories reiterates just that

The result of the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix remains a highly divisive topic to this day. Hamilton led for the entire race and looked destined to become F1’s first eight-time champion, but FIA race director Michael Masi’s botched handling of a late safety car opened the door for Verstappen to overtake and win on the final lap.

The Red Bull racer’s subsequent title successes have been far less tense. He was wholly dominant in the 2022 and 2023 campaigns and, though Lando Norris pushed him hard last year, the Dutchman still summited the standings by 63 points at the end of the season.

“He was extremely good in 2023 too,” Verstappen Snr told F1 Insider. “But, of course, 2024 was more difficult for him because the car wasn’t the best in the field and he therefore always had to drive at the limit without making any mistakes.

“He did that extremely well. He has always given 100 percent, but this year it was more noticeable. People noticed that Max can make the difference compared to others.”
