A spectacular hole-in-one from Tiger Woods’ son Charlie was not enough to overcome two-time major winner Bernhard Langer and his son Jason on Sunday at the PNC Championship – a two-day, 36-hole competition that features 20 major champions and their family members playing in a scramble format.

Team Woods and Team Langer both started the final round of the tournament tied at -13, and 18 holes was not enough to separate the teams at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida.

But in the end, it was Team Langer winning the tournament for the second consecutive year, and the sixth time winning this event for 67-year-old team anchor Bernhard.

Team Woods sprang into the lead on the fourth hole with a hole-in-one from Charlie Woods that drew a huge reaction from proud father Tiger which will live in highlight reels for years to come.

The Langers were steady and relentless throughout their round, repeatedly drawing even with Team Woods, only to see the Woodses re-establish their lead. Team Langer birdied eight of the nine holes on the back nine Sunday, one stroke better than Team Woods, as both teams finished 36 holes at -28 to force a playoff.

The pair carded a 59 in the opening round and are on 13 under along with Bernhard Langer and his son Jason Langer as well as Vijay Singh and his son Qass.

The 36-hole exhibition tournament, which includes current and former professional golfers playing with a parent or child, concludes on Sunday.

Tiger Woods, a 15-time major winner, and Charlie are making their fifth appearance at the annual event, which also allows players to use golf carts.

The duo tied for fifth last year after finishing second in 2021.

“It’s a scramble, so we’re trying to pull off each and every shot for each other,” said Tiger Woods, 48.

“I think we did that great pretty much the entire day. Charlie made pretty much most of the putts today.”

Tiger Woods is going to be back on a golf course on Saturday but he doesn’t want anyone expecting much out of him at the PNC Championship in Florida.

Woods and his son Charlie, 15, are competing together in this weekend’s event with the legendary golfer back on the course for the first time since having his sixth back surgery in September.

But the 48-year-old insists he is simply there to compete with his son and is not up to any level to challenge just yet, saying recovery is harder than ever

That was one of the reasons why I had the surgery done earlier, so that hopefully I could give myself the best chance to be with Charlie and be able to play,’ Woods said.

‘I’m not competitive right now, but I just want to be able to have the experience again. This has always been one of the bigger highlights of the year for us as a family, and now we get to have that moment together again.

After several months on the sideline thanks to another back surgery, Tiger Woods makes his return to the golf course this week at the PNC Championship in Orlando, Florida. Woods and his son, Charlie, are back at the Ritz-Carlton with hopes of winning the year’s final silly-season event for the first time — Team Woods finished runner-up to the Dalys in 2021.

In the modern sports landscape, branding is as critical as skill, and the rise of NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) deals is transforming the way young athletes approach their careers. No longer limited by age, prodigies across various sports are signing lucrative sponsorship agreements, securing financial benefits alongside their athletic pursuits. Among the most talked-about prospects is 15-year-old Charlie Woods, the son of golfing legend Tiger Woods, who is already making headlines for his potential in golf. The buzz surrounding him has raised the question: has Charlie Woods signed an NIL deal?

Florida High School, where Charlie plays golf and is a student-athlete, has cleared the way for NIL opportunities. Following a recent decision by the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA), high school athletes can now legally profit from their name, image, and likeness. This groundbreaking move allows young talents to work with agents and sponsors, opening up significant financial avenues. For Florida High’s standout players, including Woods, this could mean early access to deals that set them up for future success in their chosen sports.

Scottie does everything else so well.” -said an impressed Rory McIlroy about Scottie Scheffler at the 2024 Genesis Invitational. However, the PGA Tour pro being a nice guy is, as per a certain journalist, what gives an edge to the competitor. Interestingly, a similar situation occurred when the Northern Irishman gave honest advice to the current No.1 which then went ahead and backfired as the 34-year-old was dominated by the latter at the recent signature event.

Well, it seems what Paul McGinley said about the athlete during the interview with Golf Channel does hold true. Meanwhile, the broadcaster was also extremely appreciative of how “guarded” Tiger Woods was as he carried himself out on the course all the while urging the players not to give their competitors an edge, much like the legend of the game!

“I think Rory is at his best when he’s got an edge,” stated McGinley as he recounted the recent biennial event which saw the 4-time major champ have his best-ever Ryder Cup performance. However, adding on, he was quick to point out how much of a pleasant person he really is. “He’s such a nice guy,” divulged the journalist before mentioning how such a demeanor can work against him. He said, “When he’s asked a question, he gives such an honest answer. But sometimes that gives an edge to your competitor,

Tiger Woods was back playing golf again.

Paired with PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh at Monday’s Seminole Golf Club Pro-Member event, Woods and Waugh carded a 2-under 70 in the gross competition.

That put them in a tie for 44th in the 78-team field, per 5 Clubs Golf on X.

Woods and Waugh then tied for 33rd in the low-net competition, signing for a 5-under 67. The USGA lists Waugh as having a 9.6 handicap index out of Seminole Golf Club.

Tiger Woods honored with USGA's most prestigious award

This event marked the first time Woods played publicly since his withdrawal at the Genesis Invitational.

On Sirius XM’s PGA Tour Radio, Brad Faxon said, “Everybody who watched [Woods] play at Seminole said he hit it absolutely down the middle.”

The team of Tiger Woods and PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh didn’t fare well at the Seminole Pro-Member Golf Tournament on Monday, finishing with a gross score of 70 (tied 44th) and a net score of 67 (tied 33rd).

That trailed another high-profile pair, at least in gross score, as the combo of former NFL quarterback Tom Brady and Tony Finau finished with a gross score of 69 (tied 30th) and also posted a net score of 67.

While there were several significant storylines heading into the LIV Golf Jeddah event in Saudi Arabia, none were bigger than Anthony Kim, who made his highly anticipated return to professional golf after a 12-year absence.

But the three-time PGA Tour winner’s return was anything but triumphant as Kim finished in last place, a full 33 shots back of winner Joaquin Niemann, who took his second victory in three starts on the Saudi-backed series this season and has already racked up more than $8 million in prize money.

But what somewhat got lost between the negative aspects of Kim’s return and Niemann’s ongoing dominance to start the 2024 season was the play of Phil Mickelson, whose performance in Jeddah marked his best individual finish in LIV Golf since defecting from the PGA Tour two years ago.
