Following last time’s lackluster clash between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, many fans questioned the fight’s legitimacy.

Since taking the sport seriously and garnering more attention than ever, ‘The Problem Child’ has had constant cheating allegations thrown his way. Those fixing claims have only strengthened with time and are arguably bigger than ever after his most recent win.

Fans tuned in to Netflix in anticipation of seeing the Mike Tyson of old put on a show. Instead, they were treated to a 58-year-old retired boxer who looked every bit his age.

As expected, the boxing legend put on a losing effort against the much younger and hungrier Jake Paul. Despite Tyson’s age and mileage in the ring, some still believe he sold out for money and allowed his opponent to win.

The 58-year-old sports icon reflected on his post-fight mood and the adjustment back to everyday life, saying: “That fight was such a big ascent-we were so up and high, we were so excited. The fight’s over, boom. Wow, I’m kind of depressed a little bit. We got to get back [into] our living situation [daily life], back to living. [We were] training for it 9 months.”

The highly anticipated fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, held on November 15, became one of the most talked-about events of the past year. While the bout shattered viewership records on Netflix, USA TODAY Sports revealed that it fell short of expectations in terms of attendance.

According to documents obtained by the outlet, a tax report submitted by fight promoter Holden Boxing LLC showed that 59,666 tickets were sold, with an additional 6,437 distributed as complimentary, for a total of 66,103 tickets.

These numbers starkly contrasted with Paul’s ambitious prediction of 90,000 spectators at AT&T Stadium. Achieving that figure would have required selling 10,000 standing-room-only seats at the 80,000-seat venue, home to the Dallas Cowboys.

Despite falling short of the projected crowd, the fight generated $18.1 million in ticket revenue, the highest ever for a U.S. boxing event outside of Nevada. The total revenue subject to state taxes reached $22 million, including $3.6 million attributed to complimentary tickets.

Despite both combatants vowing that the highly-anticipated faceoff wouldn’t go the distance, the bout ended up spanning all eight, two-minute rounds – with all three judges ruling in favor of the YouTuber-turned-boxer.

After spending the better part of two decades away from the boxing ring, Tyson looked to be a shell of his former self upon returning to the stage where he dominated for so many years. The 58-year-old looked every bit his age versus Paul, 27, only managing to connect on 18 of his 97 punches thrown (18 percent).

In the leadup to the lucrative fight – which became the most streamed global sporting event in history after Netflix raked in 108 million viewers – many fans expressed concern for Tyson’s health. The ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ did little to ease these concerns following the bout, conceding that he suffered a major health scare prior and blacked out on fight night.

The highly anticipated showdown between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson on July 20 in Texas will not feature headguards, dispelling rumors stirred by British heavyweight Derek Chisora.

While specific details regarding the fight’s format and regulations remain undisclosed, Paul‘s business partner, Nakisa Bidarian, refuted Chisora‘s unfounded claims.

Unequivocally there is no headgear for Paul vs Tyson,” Bidarian wrote on Instagram.

“Haters spreading fake news but it won’t stop the 10’s of millions of views.”

Tyson returned to the ring for an exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020. With a career marked by remarkable achievements, his clash with Paul marks another intriguing chapter.

The heavyweight icon is considered one of the greatest fighters of all time, but is far from his prime having retired from boxing in 2005 and leaving with a 50-6 record, including 44 knockouts.

There is a 31-year age gap between him and Paul, who is currently on his own surprising pursuit to become world champion having gone from YouTuber to Disney Channel actor and now boxing.

Fans have already become concerned after a video emerged of the former champion using a walking stick after struggling with sciatica.

On the talkSPORT boxing watchalong for Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou, former European super bantamweight champion Oliver revealed his own reservations for Tyson in the fight.

Netflix, a global streaming service, has partnered with Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), a sports agency and boxing promoter, for a new boxing event that will include a fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson.

The match will be held on July 20 at Arlington, Texas’s 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium, which will be streamed live on Netflix.

That arena has previously held a number of boxing events, most recently a welterweight world title unification contest between Yordenis Ugas and Errol Spence Jr, which attracted over 40,000 spectators.

In 2021, 73,126 people attended the super-middleweight title unification bout between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders, breaking the historic indoor boxing audience record.

Notably, it is unclear whether the main event Tyson vs Paul battle will be held as an exhibition or a legitimate professional contest, amid concerns regarding Tyson’s recent health, who will be 58 at the time of the event.
