Celebrity tennis fan Lindsey Vonn is back in the eye of the storm … of the GOAT debate.

You might remember how the Olympic champion skier ignited a social media firestorm for herself with fans of Novak Djokovic last month when she dubbed Roger Federer, a longtime friend, with the moniker of “the greatest of all-time.” But on Sunday, Vonn took to X to assuage any fears that Djokovic’s fans might still have over any supposed disrespect of the Serbian’s career achievements, posting a selfie with the current world No. 1 alongside glowing praise.

Lindsey Vonn dares to step back into the tennis GOAT debate after Novak Djokovic backlash

“Hanging with the [goat emoji], and yes, I do believe he is the goat,” Vonn wrote.

“Contrary to Twitter beliefs, I think there can be more than one. But @DjokerNole holds the records and I have nothing but respect for what he’s achieved… and he skis!”

Venus Williams, Caroline Wozniacki and Emma Raducanu have been awarded wildcard picks for the upcoming Miami Open next month. Whilst this guarantees further interest in an already huge tournament, some fans aren’t happy with the organiser’s decision.

“Interesting turn from giving it away to promising juniors over the years, now distributed to 3 pensioners,” one user said on X. “All will go to waste. Maybe Woz [Caroline Wozniacki] can sneak a win or two but seriously give it to some young girls,” stated another.

43-year-old Williams has not played competitively since the US Open, where she suffered a first round defeat to qualifier Greet Minnen. Wozniacki made a return to tennis in August having retired in 2020, while Raducanu has failed to recapture the form that saw her win the US Open on debut. The Brit was the only one of the three to play in last year’s event, losing her first match to Canadian Bianca Andreescu 6-3 3-6 6-2.

After some whopping investments in golf, Saudi Arabia’s PIF has shifted its focus to the racket game. While calling it a “multi-year strategic partnership,” the ATP Tour has now announced a deal with the global and domestic investor. Many in the tennis community have voiced their opinions, including American tennis veteran Jimmy Connors, who recently issued some candid statements.

Emphasizing Saudi’s multi-million-dollar deal with the governing body of the men’s tour, the Hall of Famer talked about how the Middle Eastern nation is coming in as ‘a second-placed player.’ Meanwhile, Connors also opened up about how Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal would have had a major impact on Saudi Arabia’s ‘$100 million deal’ as it would have been ‘a different story

In the latest episode of the ‘Advantage Connors’ podcast show, the former tennis ace was asked to shed light on the ATP Tour’s partnership with Saudi Arabia’s PIF. He said, “I’m telling you this, Nadal and Federer, if they were still in this, that 100 million would have been a different story. That’s just my thought, right off the top.”

Cher and Serena Williams were among the dozens of guests sipping cocktails at the Hôtel de Crillon in Paris Friday night to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Byredo’s Mojave Ghost fragrance.

Ben Gorham, who founded Byredo and serves as its creative director, hosted the event with Amelia Gray Hamlin. Also in attendance were Hamlin’s mother. Lisa Rinna, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, among others.

Gorham dreamed up Mojave Ghost after he drove through the Mojave Desert and was struck by its landscape and the ghost flowers growing there despite all odds.

“It was such a fun two days on set,” gushed the model. “We were in the middle of nowhere in the desert. Harley and the whole team scouted the most beautiful plain of desert soil that was so insanely cool and unlike any ground I’ve ever seen before. We were so grounded and close to Earth, it was very surreal. Every moment was wild and insane and incredible.”

Eight years ago, Martina Navratilova summed up the problem with the one-handed backhand in today’s game: “It practically takes a genius to hit [one],” she said.

The great Czech-American champion used a single-hander herself to win 18 Grand Slam singles titles from 1978 to 1990. But by the time she spoke those words, in 2016, the stroke had been declining—in use, though not in popularity—for nearly half a century. Last week, that downhill slide reached another milestone when Stefanos Tsitsipas dropped out of the ATP’s Top 10 and left it with no one-handed backhands for the first time since the start of computer rankings in 1973. The state of the stroke is even more dire on the women’s side, where 47th-ranked, 36-year-old Tatjana Maria has the only one-hander among the Top 60.

Navratilova was right: As the sport evolved, and players spent more time slugging from the baseline, it became increasingly difficult to survive the ground-stoke onslaught with just one hand.

Tennis champion Novak Djokovic is practicing on the UCLA campus at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. Djokovic was practicing on campus on Wednesday ahead of the BNP Paribas Indian Wells Open, which begins on March 8 in the Palm Springs area.

This will be Djokovic’s return to the Indian Wells tournament in five years, for the first time since 2019. Since Djokovic chose not to get vaccinated for COVID-19, he was unable to attend several meets since the pandemic began, due to COVID-19 restrictions.

With the news of Djokovic on campus, plenty of UCLA students filed into the tennis stadium to watch Djokovic practice. The tennis stadium is a common walkway for students walking to and from campus to their dorms or apartments, so it’s not surprising to see that many discovered Djokovic was on campus and decided to watch.

Following his practice, fans even swarmed Djokovic on the UCLA tennis courts, hoping to snap a picture or get an autograph, via Jack Nelson of the Daily Bruin.

The sports world was graced with the presence of sisters Venice Williams and Serena Williams in 1994 and 1995. After the two turned pro at the young age of 14 years old, they rose up the ranks of the tennis realm in a matter of years.

When it comes to being closely associated with your sibling in a profession, it’s hard to escape the comparisons that come. For instance, take sister duo Chlöe Bailey and Halle Bailey, who are both part of the music and entertainment industry. The two sisters are compared frequently (with Chlöe Bailey coming forth with annoyance, pleading for the world to stop). Or take twin sisters Tia Mowry and Tamera Mowry-Housely, for example. They grew up in the entertainment industry together after appearing on the hit show Sister, Sister, and although the two have a close relationship, their individual endeavors are continuously compared to one another.

Andy Roddick recently shared his opinion on the claims made by the media about Emma Raducanu’s most recent loss at the 2024 Qatar Open.

Raducanu was last in action at the WTA 1000 in Doha, where she was granted a wild card entry. The Brit, who suffered a crushing 6-0, 7-6 (8) defeat to Anhelina Kalinina in the opener, competed at the event just days after her second-round loss to Ons Jabeur in Abu Dhabi.

During the period between the two tournaments, Emma Raducanu also made a quick trip to Dubai to attend a star-studded party at a luxury hotel. British tennis journalist Stuart Fraser, among others, questioned the 21-year-old’s priorities in an article titled, “Emma Raducanu flops 48 hours after event with Naomi Campbell.” It was seemingly insinuated that partying was to blame for her loss in Doha.

Andy Roddick recently weighed in on the claims and touched upon Raducanu’s wild card entry into the Qatar Open.

Rising tennis sensation Joao Fonseca recently opened up on the players he looks up to, including Roger Federer. He also revealed that despite being a fan, he did not watch the Swiss’ 2019 Wimbledon final loss to Novak Djokovic.

Fonseca has been in the spotlight in recent weeks, thanks to his historic debut on the ATP circuit. The Brazilian tennis player, who was awarded a wild card at last week’s Rio Open, made quite a splash in front of his home crowd by reaching the quarterfinal with victories over Arthur Fils and Christian Garin. The 17-year-old thus created history as the first player born in 2006 to win an ATP match.

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic compete for the greatest season

In a recent interview with UOL, Joao Fonseca shed light on his childhood, his family, and the players he loves watching. The World No. 343 disclosed that he was a “big fan” of Roger Federer and frequently flaunted the former World No. 1’s shirts. He added that his mother shared a similar fascination for the Swiss legend.

The 17-year-old, however, noted that he hardly watched any tennis matches growing up. And despite being his fan, he also skipped the 20-time Grand Slam champion’s 2019 Wimbledon epic against Novak Djokovic, something he said he now “regrets.”
